Editorial & Proofreading Background
For more than twelve years, I worked as a professional proofreader and editorial specialist, helping authors, academics, and businesses refine their written work with precision and clarity.
I built my reputation — and my proofreading site, Proofreader.kiwi.nz — on three core principles:
accuracy, clarity, and respect for the author’s voice.
These same principles now shape my fiction.
From Editor to Author
My transition from full-time proofreader to fiction writer wasn’t abrupt; it was the logical next step.
Years of close reading sharpened my sensitivity to rhythm, tone, pacing, and emotional weight — the craft behind a sentence that works.
Today, my editorial background informs:
- the clean, minimalistic style of my stories;
- my emphasis on precision and readability;
- my instinct for dialogue, interiority, and subtle tension;
- my ability to create tight, elegant narratives that respect the reader’s time.
What I Still Offer
Although proofreading is no longer my main business, I continue to provide:
- light manuscript polishing for select clients
- clarity editing for short-form works
This limited list allows me to maintain the editorial craft I value while dedicating most of my time to writing.
Why This Matters for Readers
My background means you can expect:
- carefully crafted prose
- disciplined emotional storytelling
- stories that have been edited with the same professional standards once offered to clients
It also means my books are suited for readers who appreciate clean, confident writing that doesn’t waste a word.
